August 2004, with group (85 km in 5 days. 5 )
We spend about a week above the treeline, in a group, in packed mountain huts. It was... overwhelming. This was not holiday, but the C1 mountaineering course. We learned methods to rescue people from crevasses, climbing up ropes, abseiling, lots of knots and gained knowledge/experience about what to do when you slip and start gliding towards your death. The craziest thing was the risk people take to reach a summit, even when you have an equally good view 10 meters lower for a lot less risk. That is not what 'the outdoors' is for me. I'm not sorry that I did the course and had the experiences. But after I got back in the treeline I knew that this barren world full of people wasn't for me. I got the certificate, but then canceled my membership of the mountaineering club. I'm a hiker, not a climber.
