Routeburn and Greenstone Track

• March 2004, with Petra (80 km in 5 days.   4   )

To not end up on the wrong side of the mountains, we connect 2 trails. The Routeburn Track to the west, and the Greenstone Track back to the east. Crossing the Misty Mountains twice in 5 days. Like the Kepler Track, these were 'Great Walks', and again we were terribly lucky to get a permit, which usually doesn't work without reservation. The weather on the Routeburn Track was terrible, which is what you get when hiking a rain forrest. The weather on the Greenstone Tracks was slightly better, just bad. But who cares! Adventures!
