Usually one-nighters don't make it onto my website, but somehow this one felt important. I hadn't really hiked since Rogen 2024, not with full gear and camping wild. And wild camping by myself has been years. Could I still do this? Did I still dare to camp alone in a place that is packed with wild boar and wolves? Even last week my wildlife camera caught about a dozen boar on my campsite. I went, I still could, I still dared. But most important of all, I still felt that familiar joy. I took my ancient 29 year old Nallo 3, my first hiking tent, which I bought when I was 30. I feel the years, next week I turn 59, and this short trip was also a test to see if I still have it. And if there may still be a wilderness hike this fall. Something else is that I walked from my frontdoor all the way to my sacred hidden campsite in the woods. It feels wild there, my camera saw many many animals at that spot. Wild boar, wolves, foxes, badgers, red deer, fallow deer, roedeer. And the ravens come check me out whenever I spend time there. This simple connection from my house to nature, on foot, is also important to me.
