  • Trip Report : Hiking Yukon & The Rockies
  • The bears! (I had no telelens and very shaky hands).

  • Kluane National Park, Yukon - Slims River West Trail (3 days)

A 3-day backpacking trip into the wilderness of Kluane National Park in the Yukon Territories. This is one of the prime grizzly bear habitats of Canada and we had to take some precautions to minmize the risk. Because of that we did not encounter any bears (not here at least), but we did see the northern lights, a wolf and an absolutely gorgeous landscape...

Yoho National Park, British Columbia (2 days)

Into the backcountry of Yoho. We took the iceline trail above the treeline. The weather wasn't great, but the views made up for it.

    Mount Assiniboine/Banff National Park, Alberta/BC (4 days)

One of the most beautiful places that I ever visited. The hidden Mt. Assiniboine park can only be reached on foot. When we arrived it was dark and gloomy, but we woke up with a splendid colourful sunrise with a great view on the Matterhorn of the Rockies...

USA, Bryce Canyon and Kolob Canyons (Zion) (3+3 days) - May 2003

    Into the Utah backcountry

  • Bryce Canyon National Park - Under The Rim Trail

Bryce has some of the most stunning scenery that I ever saw and I wanted to hike here for a long time. We had 3 days on the trail. A great experience, despite the fact that we almost got into some trouble because we couldn't find water.

On the trail with our backcountry permit, something that I wanted to do for a long time. Making camp, we divided the tasks evenly. I took care of all the chores while Petra guarded our camp against critters. Iron Springs, orange greasy water that turned into a thick soup when we boiled it. We drank many liters of it and survived. Some of the wildlife Climbing out of the canyon while a thunderstorm loomed over our heads Sunrise over Bryce Canyon

Zion Canyon National Park - Kolob Canyons

Basecamping deep inside the spectaculair backcountry of Zion.

Into the Kolob Canyons, the quiet backdoor of Zion National Park Our basecamp in a very hot La Verkin Creek Canyon, we where the lucky ones with the pool We learned the importance of water, the hard way (see the Bryce trip report) Despite the scorging heat, the scenery was remarkably lush and very beautiful Some harmless wildlife. We didn't see the mountain lions's and Petra didn't have the camera with her when she fought of the 3 snakes (see Zion trip report). The walkway from the trail to our camp Bear Trap Canyon, amazing scenery. We followed it to the waterfall

The Netherlands, Marskramerpad (4 days) - April 2003

    Easter on the Veluwe.
